The mouthpiece is made up of a series of rounded links that is similar to a chain and can be manipulated by the horse allowing him to swallow and move his mouth freely.
The Loose Ring of the Waterford helps to stop the horse leaning on the bit as it enables the rider to move the bit round in the horses mouth, this also helps to encourage the horse to relax through the jaw.
As the Waterford is flexible and bends in every direction it usually suits all types of mouth conformation, including big, fat tongues.
